Spectrum 2007 Admissions Console

Spectrum ran in January of 2007, and I volunteered for the Admissions Director position. The position was defined relatively simply - I was to be responsible for people entering and leaving the building, tracking admissions, and tracking food and merchandise sales. The system recorded useful information like peak times for food purchases, so that food can be ordered in appropriate quantities for Spectrum 2010.

I also wrote a volunteer sign-up system that made it very easy for students to manage their own volunteering schedule by filling available slots with their NSID. The system handled well over 700 volunteers for the 5-day event (that includes set-up and take-down). Engineers without Borders approached me in late 2008 about borrowing the code for this system, and it seems to have served them well for several events to date!
