About

My name is Brahm Neufeld. I finished a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan with a minor in Professional Communication, in April of 2010, and I'm starting a brand-new career as a Systems & Process Controls Engineer-In-Training here in Saskatoon.

This homepage was created to supplement my resume for the job hunt; now that I'm employed it will serve as an archive of interesting things I've worked on or have been involved with. If you're interested in seeing what I'm up to right now, follow me on Twitter.

If you'd like to get in touch with me, try [firstname].[lastname]@usask.ca or [lastname]@[firstname].ca (be sure to omit the square brackets).

Current Projects

  • Not too much is going on! In addition to establishing myself in my new career, I'm running a website for an upcoming family reunion, and getting back into squash, which I played as a kid (and like so many other childhood sports, quit).
  • I started a blog! I am going to write about geeky stuff I like.

Recent Projects & Happenings

  • bra.hm, a URL shortening service - like TinyURL, bra.hm is for shortening long URLs into short, easy-to-link ones. I registered a .hm domain name, learned about DNS records, and got a lot of help from NamesPro (my web host) configuring IIS to support yourls (the pre-made URL-shortening software). • On March 11, 2010, I placed first in the College of Engineering's 60th Annual Kent Phillips Public Speaking Competition! The College of Engineering covered the announcement, as did the Graham Centre.
  • I was interviewed my Maclean's for the Maclean's Guide to Canadian Universities, 2010 edition, on Feb 1, 2010. I was featured in the "One Student's Story" section!
  • A simpler online fuel consumption monitor - I used to use SpritMonitor.de to monitor fuel comsumption. While the site was functional, the English->German translation isn't perfect, and the features are not what I need or want. I started my own service from scratch with a cleaner interface and better features, like integration with Google Charts. New features will be showing up all of the time! • The Consumerist - a great consumer rights and advocacy blog.
  • Domainr - a really cool tool for searching for custom domain names.
  • Google Charts API - generate dynamic and complex charts for free.
  • Hole In The Wall Restaurant - 30 minutes South of Saskatoon by Dundurn, this secret restaurant prepares AMAZING food! They even offer cooking classes - I highly recommend them.
  • last.fm - Last.fm software on your computer or iPod will track each and every song you listen to, then allow you to visualize that data like this or like this.
  • Mandolux - a great site for multi-monitor wallpapers in a ton of different resolutions.
  • Riskopoly - Risk + Monopoly = Riskopoly, the game of capitalist imperialism!
